Saw a post by someone with a very large following on Mastodon, on Threads, and on BlueSky. He was comparing the level of engagement he gets on the different platforms.
I'm not on any of the other short text platforms, so I can't make any comparisons myself, and so I'm curious what your experience has been
@davidnjoku Like most things, I think it depends. For more technical topics, like Linux, programming, or systems administration, I prefer Mastodon. For topics like sports, I see more posts in BlueSky.
Twitter is just now all AI-related garbage
-
@davidnjoku I was never able to illicit a reply from him, which might be an explanation for the lack of engagement.
@tehstu I don't think he ever replied to anyone

I'm not on Mastodon though... I'm on Sharkey, in the Fediverse... -

@davidnjoku Mastodon's the only network where I often feel like replying, perhaps because the people here in general don't have any motives other than the joy of talking about interesting stuff. Never did much on Twitter but then I wasn't an early adopter of social media in general.
I have to say, LinkedIn still gets a bit of activity, that's the only other network I'm on but only because I know some of my connections personally i.e. have met them physically.
I do actually appreciate having a little bit of the more 'professional' social media user like who you're referring to here as well, just in the minority!

@MxAlba What's Sharkey?
@davidnjoku@mastodon.world
Sharkey is basically a version of Misskey with more Blåhaj. And what is Misskey? Well, one of the many social networks that exist within the Fediverse together with Mastodon, Pixelfed, Loops, Peertube, Lemmy, Friendica and quite a few others, all federated with one another. In fact, Misskey was one of the first federated social networks, it's older than Mastodon. -

@davidnjoku am just here! I keep seeing people who have accounts on multiple places say that fedi has a lot more interaction (comments, conversations, boosts) than other platforms.
Interaction rewards and leads to more interaction. Just like on forums, haha. -

@davidnjoku I followed that account for a bit ...
I don't mind not having those posts in my world anymore -

@davidnjoku I'm currently only on mastodon. Engagement level here roughly compares to 2011-2012 Twitter? I'm a regular person by the way, not an influencer or a brand

@davidnjoku When I was on Twitter I had more engagement but it was more homophobic and bullying type messages, and threats. I hardly get any engagement on Mastodon but no death threats, a good thing. If I left Mastodon hardly anyone would remember I existed.

@davidnjoku I'm not on those others, but I am on Facebook and I get much more engagement there. I have started posting links to my Mastodon posts that I think people there might be interested in (and it did get my mother to create an account), but it's where most of my family are.
