    A fresh Danish horror:

"Da jeg gik **i** skole, ..." (When I went to school, ...)

"Da jeg gik **på** uni, ..." (When I went to uni)

    Elementary, middle school = i
    University, højskole = på
High school = people disagree (personal data suggests southern jutland uses på, mid Jutland uses i)

    Why.

NB: people disagree does not mean "people accept either". It means I watched multiple Danish people vehemently argue about that.

@danielgratzer English has similar distinctions no? Your kids are *in* school and you are *on* campus.

@dwarn But one also says that I go to university or I am in university. You can similarly be on a school campus. So my kids are in university and my kids are on the high school campus are both totally fine to say. I can't identify a difference between how schools and universities are treated here I think, just between the concept of an institution versus the physical grounds..

@danielgratzer anecdata: we used both "på gymnasie" and "i gymnasie" interchangably in Randers
