@Tutanota Governments have been trying to control the Internet for over twenty years. My only surprise is at how successful they're becoming.

So much ignorant people in the governments that its just dumb to comment it.
How can you force age verification to a Mastodon, NOSTR, EMail hosting site instance in Swiss or Sweden, that is accessible through onion address?
At least tell the Governments ask the Universities in their country for opinion.
If the kids are not protected in the platform that are actually owned by the "Five Eyes", does the governments think they will be safer on NOSTR or Mastodon where it is WWW?

Isn't it slow tho? I'm quite shocked that it took them that long to introduce such things

@angiebaby @Tutanota only corrupt people are terrified, not the billionaire. Because not every rich person is corrupted

โOnline safetyโ meaning surveillance, AI criminals promising various bullshit scams that will be used as a cover for building the private sector police state, mass identity theft when the verification is inevitably outsourced to a lowest bidder tech firm that still is wildly overpriced and wastes all the money, and then the use of the whole thing against everyone who isnโt a rich white insane Christian technofascist.

@Tutanota I agree with most points in this post, but the privacy section seems slightly incomplete to me. Using identity wallets which use zero knowledge proofs (e.g. @yivi_privacybydesign), proving โbeing over 16โ can be done without oneโs ID or any other PIID with a central server.
The point of being limited to governmental ID holders still mostly holds up though (although it shifts to e.g. EUDI wallet holders, which happen to not necessarily use zero knowledge proofs)

@angiebaby @Tutanota it's ur POV, not everyone's . I'm also rich & still against big tech and the current system running in world. But i still don't hate every person just because they are rich or poor .. As I said not every rich person is bad or corrupt..

@wadavxx @dick_turpin @Tutanota They had to defeat our laws first. Had to convince people that they need to be tracked. 20 years ago nobody would have put up with this shit. Not to this extreme. They had to go slow.

@Tutanota not every country uses Id or face checks. They use zero knowledge proof. Which at least doesn't give any data

@crazyeddie They had help, and they get help every day. Every time you see someone on the Fediverse saying, for example, "We need protecting from right-wing influencers!" that's the coattails governments ride on. "Ooh, they want protection! Let's implement a check system, for their own protection, of course."
Every news report you see where someone was encouraged or driven to commit suicide or self-harm, governments use that as justification to lock the web down.

Brazil has passed law not only to require age checks for social media, but also for operating systems.
The Digital Statute of Children and Adolescents (ECA Digital - Law No. 15211/2025) is regulated by Decree 12880/2026, clearing stating in the Article 2 (IV to VII) and the Article 15.

In the USA, H.R. 8250 requires operating system providers to verify the age of any user of an operating system.
