I would like to get back into writing as a hobby. During my childhood and adolescence it was one of my passions. Could you offer me some recommendations, books, exercises, clubs, etc?

@carlosdiaz Honestly, just start. Describe things and feelings. Write down new words you discover in a notebook then use them. Write for yourself. Ignore audience or feedback. That’s the hobby stage. Copy writers you love; copy some you loathe. Once you have the epiphany that “hey, this ain’t half bad” then show it on friendly online forums in your genre. After that forget everything and start working on your own voice. A few ideas here:

@carlosdiaz You could pick 1 keyword or subject and see if you can create a small story around it. Just a few paragraphs. See if you can create 2 or 3 different ones about the same idea.
Good luck!

@RLRaymond I like how you use photography as a seed to tell stories! Thanks for your advice, sometimes the simplest things are the best ones!

@RLRaymond @carlosdiaz I second this. Focus on creating a regular writing routine. Don’t focus on the perfect opening line or the perfect story. Just focus on getting words down. Write about the view from the window. People watch and note down imagined backstories for them. Use random words or themes to prompt very short stories. When you’re not writing, read widely. Journal. Write daily haikus. Keep exploring to help you find your voice and the writing practice suited to you.

@carlosdiaz take a picture, then ask yourself:
- why did I take this?
- what does that tell me about myself?
- What backstory could I tell?
- etc… -
