Finally got the stringer displacement piece assembled!!

I forgot to take a picture before I started putting the clear bits on top, so imagine the first picture without those two square pieces.

Took the second at that weird angle so it is a little easier to see where the squares are on top. If all goes well, it should result in the stringers going all wavy.

Found my tack fused “fill the kiln carve with frit” heart experiment - if I do this again, looks like fine frit and a tack fuse is the way to go, even if that yellow frit seems to really not like heat.

That was a fun experiment, and I’m glad I did it.

AND WE HAVE FINALLY FOUND THE PURPLE!

It is, of course, the gold purple transparent - the one on top. That violet striker on the bottom is dark, but pretty.

My frit stretched did its stretchy thing all the way to the center! It also came out VERY thick’s so it’s going back in for another full fuse without a mold to let it just spread out a bit more. I did grind off all the spiky bits. I’m so happy with how pretty it is.

Also put in another color test for the red and orange frit I have - in the photo the red is on the top and the orange is on the bottom - they should both strike to the right color in the kiln. One is for a tack fuse, the other a full fuse.

I love that we have the time (and enthusiastic encouragement) to do things like color testing and “what happens if” things.

We have an allotment of 9 sheets of glass for the class and my stuff has been so heavy on clear tekta and frits and stringers, I have only used 3 sheets so far. Asked the instructor if when we got to the end of class and we still had allotment left, can we just go nuts in the store to fill out what we’re allowed? YES! I decided to do a little shopping to see if there was anything I couldn’t live without and found these two streakies for my stash.

The frit stretch project after another round in the kiln to get it a little thinner. It’s going to be slumped next into a bowl. Really love it so far!

The stringer displacement plate!! The bit on the upper right got a bit…folded for lack of a better description in firing, but it’s fine - my instructor thinks it will probably flatten back out in the slump fuse. If it doesn’t - interesting visual addition, LOL.

Yeah, it came out so neat - and you can't quite see it in the picture, but the sparkles in the green really came through, too.

The stringer displacement after the slump - came out really nice. The one corner where it was a little folded straightened out for the most part and I doubt I'll even notice it the next time I look at it.

My instructor was not kidding when she said she knew the perfect mold to use for this - it's exactly how I wanted it to look. Couldn't be happier with this one.

I love how it came out! Can't wait to try it again with other colors and ribbons instead of the stringers.
