Relatable, Arch users?

@mrgrumpymonkey @VA3DSO @itsfoss As a retiree I mostly function on cast-off hardware that I get either used or as cast-off freebees. So, I mostly run XFCE or LXQT and on some super low spec hardware LXDE.
@mrgrumpymonkey @VA3DSO @itsfoss Hell, just last week someone dumped an old small form factor Dell box on me with an early Intel 64 bit processor, 4GB RAM and a 500 GB HD.
It happily now runs Debian LXDE.

@leftylabourtech @VA3DSO @itsfoss Love hearing these stories. You ganna swap out the HDD for an SSD?

@mrgrumpymonkey @VA3DSO @itsfoss I've played a bit in the past with AntergOS (now obsolete) and Manjaro. Both times I managed to mess up some packaging.
There are some things I like about Fedora, but mostly I kind of stick to Debian-based or "actual" Debian these days.
@leftylabourtech @VA3DSO @itsfoss Yeah, I've run across issues with Majaro and Garuda, on the Arch flavor side. So far CachyOS hasn't given me any reason to stop using it. There was one update for something, that a webcam tool used, and I just removed the webcam software and installed another one. Update error gone. Cheese was that software, if you were curious.

@mrgrumpymonkey @VA3DSO @itsfoss I'd only swap out for an SSD if I had a spare SSD in the junk bin.
I'm planning to give it away anyway.
Have some DDR3 RAM in the junk bin but it's not quite the right speed otherwise I'd bump that up.

@mrgrumpymonkey @VA3DSO @itsfoss Hearing some good things about CachyOS and I'll have to give it a spin some day. I have one derelict desktop box that I installed EndeavorOS on, but haven't had a chance to get back to it and play some more.

@IncredibleLaser @VA3DSO @itsfoss I'm with you on this, but I'm also a computer science prof and so I regularly see people doing absolutely counterintuitive things to their systems and then blaming docs they didn't bother to read or instructors they didn't bother to listen to, much less understand

@itsfoss I ran Arch for years, but eventually I got tired of having to periodically spend hours figuring out how to fix a broken update or a busted AUR package.
I've since moved on to LMDE7 because I just want my computer to "work" - I don't want to have to work extra hard to make that happen. Sorry Arch!
Download LMDE 7 - Linux Mint
Linux Mint is an elegant, easy to use, up to date and comfortable desktop operating system.

Sure many people just need to work and can't be bothered. I just yesterday got a solution to a crash on my very old laptop. I'm thankful to the great people who found the fix. That helps everybody, other distros too.

@itsfoss I recovered from my Manjaro (Arch) illness. The remedy: a good injection of Debian 13 did the trick. Now I’m in a Linux Zen state…
@michielw hah, well put!
