Good morning, folks! It’s the #GivingChallenge, when the Community Foundation of #Sarasota County matches donations up to $100 for our local non-profits. I’m reaching out to my network to encourage donations for Second Heart Homes by raffling this stoneware serving bowl. (US only.) This amazing org purchases properties to create permanent homes for #houseless ppl who deal with mental illness. I have so much respect for #Florida orgs that run entirely on private donations. That means they continue to thrive no matter the political climate. It also means that people really believe in the work they do.

“Since 2019, Second Heart Homes has:
• Opened 13 homes
• Created 80 permanent mental health beds
• All without direct city, state, or federal funding”

We did it! Second Heart Homes surpassed their goal of raising $50k, with all donations up to $100 matched. I was able to gather $1,275. Thank you to everyone who pitched in.

I seek out orgs to support that aren't bogged down with administrative costs so that their funding goes directly to addressing the needs of their constituents. Second Heart Homes isn't a shelter--they provide permanent housing. Also, the raffle winner is Laura Campbell, a fellow artist here in Sarasota. She is actually the one who invited me to show my work at a gallery run by the local unitarian church last fall. I'm happy that my work gets to live in her home.
