In particular, I can easily hear the far side of the conversation when someone on an iPhone is on a call in the same room as me.

Don't even get me started on people that use speakerphone in public. (photo by me, in a typical mall scenario)

Semi-related, I did get my hearing professionally checked by an audiologist a few years ago because I was having trouble hearing people right near me in loud bars or restaurants.

Passed with flying colours, even the tests that had me picking out words said very quietly with a lot of background burbling talking scenario.

In real life, I somehow often unwillingly focus on a conversation from a table behind or two over from where I'm at and can't maintain focus on the one really close and relevant. That's not a physical hearing thing, but a ... brain thing?

Anyways, separate from the "I can hear the person you are talking to, there's no privacy for the remote side when you make any phone call with me in the room" ๐Ÿ˜•

... and then there's "husband hearing" where I mishear a word or phrase and can figure it out instantly but it's just funnier for me to reflexively answer with a sound-alike-but-completely-wrong phrase with a question mark at the end.

@scuttlebutt "Can you do the dishes?"

"Can I sue the fishes? Well, maybe, but what do they have that I want?"
