Was Google’s “Don’t be evil” always just a scam to get us to trust it? It’s hard not to reach that conclusion.

@KimSJ I think it more likely an exemplification of Lord Acton's statement, "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

We failed to check the techbros including those who were the founders of Google when they did not yet have *political* power. We failed to model what would happen to our rights of privacy all along the path of the internet's development. The failure isn't just techbros' corruption but our lack of foresight and poor initiative.

@KimSJ "Don't be evil" wasn't a business plan. Once there were Google shareholders, that slogan was quickly put aside.

It could have been an excellent business plan, if it were not for greedy shareholders pushing for more return at every opportunity.

Capitalism no longer values longevity. That’s the key to its downfall.
