    @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org yup that was around the time that he argued with the empty chair on stage

    Edit: right idk why I had confused them, but there was a trend of older "masculine" stars being chuds around then

      @ai6yr

      Chuck Norris was also a young-Earth creationist and claimed that atheists should not hold elected office.

        @ai6yr Yeah, he's one of the bad ones. I'm surprised this one was so surprising honestly. He's been kind of vomit for a long time.

        Honestly, these days I'm starting to just assume every single celebrity someone somewhere likes is a bad person until proven otherwise. (You have no idea how good it makes me feel seeing people just keep quoting good quotes from Terry Pratchett and not once having to add some qualifier "but you know he-" to things. Please, if he did some bad thing no one tell me!)

            @nazokiyoubinbou @ai6yr

            I am reading through "Jesus and John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation" by Kristin Kobes Du Mez. It is a hard read for me. Grew up as a pastor's kid in a Southern Baptist church and many of the people named were and still are looked upon as "heros of the faith". The book is very well researched and the connections between white evangelicals and politics is laid out. Most uncomfortable is the race issue, where many black and other ethnic churches are looked down on and seen as less than Christian just because of skin colour. I cannot believe that white evangelicals continue to say things like "You cannot be a Christian and vote for the Democratic Party." I guess in Canada they are parroting the same thing except it is Liberals and NDP vs Conservative.

            Yes, there are ethnic churches in Canada that belong to various Southern Baptist conventions.

                @VE7WYC @ai6yr It's funny because the Jesus of the Bible says the exact opposite stuff. So basically rule one of their "version" of Christianity is to... ignore their own Bible.

                Of course, with evangelicals that's already a given since when the temple was used for money and sales in a much less extreme and horrible way Jesus was so angry he ran around flipping over tables and whipping people with a hand-made whip... You literally can't be evangelical and actually Christian at the same time.

                  @rachel That happens. lol. Does give me an excuse to bring out the photo of me, the next morning and not long after I got my feeding tube, having breakfast with Obama. Excuse the pale legs. I was almost too sick to have visitors that day, but I wasn't going to refuse President Obama. 🤭 @ai6yr

                    @nazokiyoubinbou @ai6yr Yeah there are friends who stopped calling themselves "evangelicals" because that label is now co-opted. Much like Westboro Baptist paints all Baptists in a bad light. You are exactly correct. I am sure Jesus is currently pissed at the situation.

                      @VE7WYC @ai6yr Funny thing is that I'm atheist. I guess it's easier to see this stuff from the side than when you're immersed in it.

                      So many people calling themselves "Christian" use their bible as a blunt force instrument more than anything else while ignoring its actual contents. Everyone they hate are exactly the people their bible tells them to love and give of themselves to... Everyone they love, their bible tells them to hate as servants of The Enemy.

                        @nazokiyoubinbou @ai6yr This is what bothers many of us, that people are getting pushed away from getting to know God's love because some people who claim to be Christians are repulsing them.
