It's interesting to note that the UCP government introduced changes to the Referendum Act rules around political parties and how they can be involved in this fall's separation vote (should it proceed) via BIll 23 amendments made just this past week.

The new rules were likely intended to block Stephen Carter's takeover of the Alberta Liberal Party to help pro-Canada activists likely hoping to access that very same data to run a campaign in this fall's referendum bonanza.

So, the UCP took quick legislative action to block that, while right under their noses, David Parker had already grabbed the voter data (from The Republican Party, it's alleged) and connected it to a US-based app to help the separatist campaign.

And here's an update from Elections Alberta. The Republican Party is specifically named.
