      @thetyee This is why I don't sign up for loyalty cards and pay by cash. Companies NEVER give you something for nothing, no matter how they dress it up.

        An #NDP motion. I dont know how this post left that out. Avi Lewis's motion. An #NDP motion to ban surveillance pricing, ban store cheating, theft, manipulation.

        Who did this? Avi.

        Who voted it down? Carney and PP head.

            @thetyee

            Thanks! This is an informative article, a worthwhile read even for those outside of Canada who might not know about the politics there.

            The story explains the different terms (dynamic pricing, surge pricing, surveillance pricing) for the tricks the corporate vampires are using to squeeze more money from us. Surveillance pricing, in particular, opens up unacceptable avenues for corporate political and religious bigotry.

              Another reason to never use loyalty cards or the apps many stores/chains are (at least in Germany in the last maybe two years) rather aggressively promoting. You get some cheap deals out of it, but you end up being squeezed.

                Inequality and privacy invasion on steroids.

                Good job Liberal party of Canada.

                You are doing an awesome job of replicating the failure of the Democratic Party in the United States to stop fascism. Corporatism is fascism.

                  And the first grocery store to declare they will have one price for everyone gets my business.

                  I will boycott the rest.

                      @kimlockhartga @thetyee Maybe better to not take your phone into the store with you, or put in airplane mode or faraday bag

                        @Nonya_Bidniss @thetyee good point. I usually leave my phone at home when I shop for groceries because I want to be hands-free. I just keep my drivers license and one card in my pocket.

                          @thetyee time to start turning off the phone or leaving it at home before getting groceries.
