I've been trying to figure out both Linux and Krita at the same time this week. I tried working on this old pencil sketch of "Lord Richard", the 52 year old vulture at the Lindsey Wildlife Museum (that's actually his name). A few YouTube videos later, I was able to get the pencils to look ok, but still can't figure out smudging.

@Anne_Montano_Art Technique I use for smudging is my finger, and rubbing gently. And to create light streaks, I use an eraser. Careful though--the eraser will get a lot of lead on it and it'll begin smuding if you don't get the lead off. Just run it accross rough material to rub off the lead. Rough like a carpet. Shh, I won't tell anyone you dirtied the carpet if you don't tell anyone I did

@Anne_Montano_Art Oh just realised you meant in Krita.

@MillyPinkhams Thank you! I like to learn about other artist's techniques, both digital and traditional. I am learning how to use smudging to start a gesture drawing, from the leftover charcoal from sharpening. I'm guilty of bumping my charcoal dust off the side of my worktable. It's now a permanent feature of the carpet..
I'm looking for a way, in Krita, to smudge like you would with a rag. I guess I have to play with the pressure on the smudge tool. -

I guess I have to play with the pressure on the smudge tool.@Anne_Montano_Art I find the opacity of the smude tool gets good results for blending without smearing the image too much. It's like refining the pressure without relying on the physical weight of the pen and your hand pressure. (I just really hate pressure sensitivity of graphics pens entirely and rather it just be consistant. So, that's not for everyone.)

@MillyPinkhams Thanks for the advice. I will try it out
