Appliance salesman, (who has been in the business a long time) "Appliances don't last 10 years anymore. You get seven years now."

    Seven years later.

    Yup. He was right.

I maintain this is a huge part of the "cost of living" issue. You can't get ahead, because nothing you purchase for your home lasts anymore.

@Catelli there should be no reason we could not have legislation to set minimum warranty for major appliances at 10 years.

How can we not have a toaster that's lasts more than a couple years now. It's a leaver and some resistive wire and a timer.

@Catelli My secondhand washing machine I bought in the mid-1980s still works fine.
I replaced the outflow hose last year because it was getting brittle after 40 years
They know how to do this; they choose not to.

@Catelli I found a toaster being given away in the side of the road built in 1958. I replaced the cord with a grounded plug and its still working great, 7 years later.

            1958!!!!

@Catelli I forgot to mention, this toaster measures the doneness of the freaking bread using a bimetallic switch and then automatically shuts off and the cooling of the elements raises the bread back up.

              WITCHHHHH
