@mitchellh the part about loving github but it not loving you back enough to be the place you can still get work done feels so tragic. Github was so good whole generations of devs treated it like the default choice. We never learned how to use other forges or VC because you don't fix what isn't broken. Complete dominance of a market with excellence squandered in the name of Microsoft juicing everything just a bit more. Enshittification's most profound victim.
@DerivativeThoughts @mitchellh Github was sooooo good back then. I remember 2012 where using Twitter and Github and it was amazing back then.

Ghostty is leaving GitHub. I'm GitHub user 1299, joined Feb 2008. I've visited GitHub almost every single day for over 18 years. It's never been a question for me where I'd put my projects: always GitHub. I'm super sad to say this, but its time to go. https://mitchellh.com/writing/ghostty-leaving-github

@mitchellh absolutely understandable. Also started to move all my foss projects slowly away but keeping closed work repos there for convenience right now.

@mitchellh if you can, please try to set up some form of donation to wherever you land. They’ll undoubtedly appreciate it far more than Microsoft ever would.

@mitchellh I share your sentiment. Github nowadays disrupts my professional work on a weekly basis. Somehow, it got normalised that outages are okay somehow.
This is unacceptable.

@r0k @bitbraindev @mitchellh Where is this from? That is a really cool graph!

@bjarne @bitbraindev @mitchellh I saved it from someone here back in March, but it looks like their screenshot was probably sourced from here: https://damrnelson.github.io/github-historical-uptime/

@mitchellh Understandably so, I am honestly amazed in how many different ways GitHub manages to disrupt my workflow daily, its small and big things but they add up fast.
Looking forward to hear more on where you go next and how the migration works out.

@r0k @bjarne @bitbraindev @mitchellh There's also a third-party, real uptime tracker, which shows that GitHub overall has been on zero nines for a while:
The Missing GitHub Status Page
Historical GitHub uptime reconstructed from archived status data.

@mitchellh leaving Github for me was such a sigh of relief. I hope it is for you too.Looking forward to hearing about where you end up, if only to suggest to other folk

@mitchellh Fair enough. What alternative are you considering moving to?
@nkanaev it's in the article

@mitchellh Probably for the best. Down in this thread there's a graph with the uptime of GitHub since before Microsoft acquired it until this day.
It's been degraded.

@mitchellh 1388 over here. Codeberg feels solid, maybe not for anyone outside the EU.
@greut I just discovered https://codeberg.org/ myself today. Looks very promising and fully @FOSS it seems!

@mitchellh The more people I see exiting from GitHub, the more I hope people write guides on doing so.
At the moment, the thing that's making it hard for me is GitHub Actions, which I use a lot. Also, I wish I could find an alternative to pr-release that works with Codeberg.

@mitchellh Another wonderful thing destroyed by the idiots at the helm of Microsoft.
