My Suica has been vandalised!
It transpires this has a leuco rewritable coating, so special products (like this 1 day season) are literally lasered onto the front (including a map!) and overwritten/removed once used.
Extremely extra but very cool. I've never seen one of these in the wild before.
Rewritable Laser System | Global | Ricoh
[Ricoh Global Official Website] Ricoh has established a technology that can rewrite physical distribution labels pasted on tote containers with no contact and at high speed about 1,000 times. The labels can be used repeatedly for five years or more under severe outdoor conditions; this contributes greatly to reduced environmental impact and cost. (The rewritable laser system is available only in Japan at the moment.)

Did you manage to take enough trips within Tokyo to make it worth it? -

@hugh Yes, that's very cool indeed! But in my case, the ticket machines didn't clean my IC Card after expiration. I had to ask Metro staff to clean it for me.

@hugh
Did you manage to take enough trips within Tokyo to make it worth it?@eefi Yes, definitely. It's only ~ Β£8 to start with.
Many people keep telling me the passes aren't good value, so I can only assume they're doing significantly fewer journeys

@twi Yeah, I'm interested to see how well the removal works.

And a study in brand guidelines and iconography for the World Expo 70, held in Osaka that year - my favourite
Which other event needs iconography for a Monorail?

Note that the UK pagoda (presence) was typically tasteful and muted; not trying too hard to be conspicuous but yet prominent enough to stand out from the crowd. /s
It appears the obsession with flags is deep rooted.

Brief interlude to declare that I've found the best bar in Osaka. It was absolutely rammed yesterday; people just kept coming!
Open very late, serves good (local) beer, fried chicken and gyoza. What's not to like?
Everyone coming through the door gets a personal welcome from the chef

@hugh@social.crablab.uk itβs only a UK pavilion if it has a massive Union Jack in it, otherwise itβs just a sparkling collection of firms representing the UK or something like that

This is definitely extremely touristy, and there's a much more interesting infrastructure tour available once they fix the earthquake damage
Still, nice to see some green! There are multiple dams going up the gorge; each flowing into each other. The railway was built to support construction and is still used today to get material up the gorge.
