    Courtship feeding has begun! My 4 year-old Robin friend Little Mate has started taking gifts of food to his new girlfriend Willow. She frequently makes a specific call, similar to the one hungry Robin chicks make, which he responds to by bringing food. When enough food is coming her way, she'll build a nest, and he'll continue feeding her while she's on the nest. In #Bath #Somerset #UK.

        @BathNature

        The mourning dove who has been hanging around our roof garden has a new mate too. I think he's the male and the mate is female but it's hard to tell with doves. I'm happy they aren't alone anymore.

        They tend to stay together for years when they pair up. Making terrible nests together, eating seeds, cooing ... so much cooing.

        The science department is tossing out a bin of mealy worms so they are in for a big treat when I bring those home!

          @HeyLaiverd Hi Anja, the oldest Robin on record is 19 years! I knew Little Mate's father for 3 years, and he was an adult when I met him. The average age is 13 months, but this is due to the high mortality rate of young Robins. Once they get past their first winter, they often live for at least a few more years.

              @BathNature Beautiful video 😍

              Last week, for the first time a robin at the local park landed on my hand to take some food, which absolutely made my day.

              This photo isn't that one (probably), but he landed next to me while I was sitting on the wall last autumn.

                @AbramKedge That's lovely! They have excellent memories for people who give them food. Once they get to know you, they'll often hang about for a chat after eating.
