I’m told there’s a meeting planned.

Just had a local councillor knock on the door. He now knows my attitude, and apparently the Daily Mail has been invited.
So, that’s nice. We all know how that turns out.

Clearly you have some spiteful neighbours.
-
What annoys me is the assumptions. The people in question are apparently teenagers, from Afghanistan. Beyond that, we know nothing.
Mr Councillor has assumed they don’t speak English. He has nothing upon which to base this.
Sending a teenage child alone across a continent to try and find a better life is not something done lightly.
The lack of Christian charity in this so-called Christian country appals me.
@snaptophobic There are too many Jacob Rees Mogg types in this world and not enough who actually practice what they preach.
It is basically moral-washing.

I live in Kent. Need I say more?

I couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of the blind and the lame as they toddled from their homes to get their faces in the Daily Heil.

I didn’t contribute anything, aside from holding the step ladder for the photographer. The county councillor, to be fair, is doing all he can.
Apparently, it’s six or seven young people who haven’t been processed yet. It’s a UK Home Office plan to get people out of the hotels.

Aside from the blatant "but they’re all thieves and murderers" from some of my more ill-informed neighbours, I think most folk were upset at the secrecy, or at least lack of information, surrounding things.
It’s happening all over the south east, so it’s not just our little backwater that’s affected.

"Won’t somebody think of our house values?!”

There will be complaints about tents or hotels or camps or military bases or containers. Or anything.
In time it will become "They are alright - it's the others".
-
"Won’t somebody think of our house values?!”
Cheques from the Home Office prop up demand in a weakening market?

@snaptophobic I was thinking of painting my house with a trans flag to help house prices in my local community be more affordable to others

The lack of empathy is striking. I try to imagine being a teenager, sent across thousands of miles to find a better life. Away from home, family, friends. Treated like cattle by traffickers and UK Border Force. And then having to live in this pisspot country where it’s cold, rainy and no-one likes you because you’re brown.

Now that’s an idea I’m down with.

There’s a business involved in buying up empty properties for the scheme. If anything, the house prices will suffer, though.
Properties don’t stay long on the market in this little estate, so I don’t think it’s trying to buoy anything up.

@snaptophobic Did the council(lor) invite the DM, or did the DM invite the Council(lor)? -
@snaptophobic Did the council(lor) invite the DM, or did the DM invite the Council(lor)?
I believe the councillor instigated it. The story is right up the DM's dark and piss-riddled alley, after all.
