Everyone agrees that legalising hard drugs would cause problems. However, is the crime committed by people high on cocaine anywhere near the scale of organised crime by international drug networks?

And yet, we still hear from politicians who claim that a parallel criminal state within a state is preferable to a state that allows some people to get high.

We need only look to the gang-land violence and government corruption that alcohol prohibition caused in the US (1920-1933), and how quickly it evaporated after the legalisation of alcohol. Yes, some people become alcoholics. Yes, some people die from drunk driving. But these problems are seen as manageable in comparison to prohibition.

@activersity not to mention the criminal activity of the politicians- making laws that prevent their accountability- while allowing big money (honest or corrupt) to get away with stealing from the public.
