    Here is what Republicans came up with — and yes, this is real:

    I don't think he wanted this. He's always shown a desire to keep his weapons only when absolutely necessary. Israelis must have pressured him. The good thing is that a pedophile has died in Iran.

        @randahl

        Yeah, I don't think you're reading that correctly.

        From the #MAGA lens, Trump is "ending" it by killing #Iran 's leaders. It's the same worldview as Reagan ending the USSR thru escalation.

        Of course, there is always the "day after" problem. In Venezuela, they had already arranged a deal with the VP. In Iran, we will see if Trump and Netanyahu have a faction lined up to rule.

          @TCatInReality @randahl this is more the old Chile approach, source of many a fascist dictatorhip by virtue of the US government, but apparently being right wing means not to learn anything from history but insisting of going with your gut.

            IMO, all brands of Fundamentalist Theocratic Rule are destructive. All the Abrahamic religions have been hijacked by Fundamentalist Charlatans to justify heinous acts.

            So, I wonder, could any western behavior be responsible for stimulating the enthusiasm for an Iranian Revolution & Theocratic Rule (Cuz we're the good guys, right)? Flowers & 💐 sweets?

                @randahl so they are dating this back to the Iranian Revolution (1979)?
                Maybe we, and they, should remember what had happened before that:

                "In the 1940s, there were hopes that Iran could become a constitutional monarchy, but a 1953 coup aided by U.S. and U.K. removed the elected prime minister, and Iran was ruled as an autocracy under the Shah with American support from that time until the revolution. The Iranian monarchy lasted until the Islamic Revolution in 1979, when the country was officially declared an Islamic republic".
