    @JessTheUnstill If you're doing the math then maybe 99% of his income would make him not rich?

      If rich people don't want to be hated and have people chanting "tax the rich, eat the rich", they can simply ... Not be rich. Take your checkbook, pick a charity, write a number with lots of zeros, and boom, you're not rich.

        @hyperreal He's worth like 800 Billion. For him to be an 8 millionaire, he'd have to donate 99.999%

            @JessTheUnstill@infosec.exchange There's this idea behind the opposition to the wealth tax in California that if we do this and tax the rich on their enormous riches, they'll leave the state.

            Good. They can go. One of the Google founders already left.

              @hyperreal @JessTheUnstill if he lost 99.5% of his "value", he'd still be a billionaire.

                @hyperreal @JessTheUnstill and if that was a tax, taxing *single person* would allow to end world hunger, set up infrastructure to keep it that way for decades, while also giving and maintaining for every person on Earth access to clean water, renewable power for say refrigeration, and possibly some level of internet access.
                Single person.
                Still billionaire after this.

                  @viq @hyperreal which is bananas to me. Like I'm undoubtedly "rich" in terms of normal folks. I have a (low) 6 figure tech job. But take away 99.5% ... I'd be struggling even a single missed paycheck. To be so obscene rich that 99.5% is STILL unfathomable amounts of dynastic wealth

                    @viq @JessTheUnstill I don't understand how a human being can be so selfish. It's mind-boggling.

                      @JessTheUnstill @hyperreal that's more "whole sovereign country" than "a family" kind of resources
