Hunts really don’t care about any animals, and that includes their own dogs and horses. Shooting the dogs will inconvenience them (and they will show faux anger at them being shot) but really they don’t care. It won’t put them off from doing whatever they want next time.

@oldoldcojote @JeniParsons Deer cull shooters here. One put a high-velocity round over my head a few years back. On my own land. I didn't see him but he saw me alright. Must've thought it would be fun. I've been in rifle butts and i know what an overhead round sounds like. I cannot support the Deer Cull notion just farted out of the UK Labour Cabinet Not-in-our-manifesto-but-hey-we-are-in -power Bright-Ideas-Factory. Reform voting shooters with licence to patrol at will? No thanks.

Shooting the hounds upsets them, but not because they care about their animals. It's about property (the dogs) and privilege (letting them run amok).

@JeniParsons @mason if they deviate from the set trail then they are not trail hunting and are breaking the law as it currently stands. They should face prosecution.
I appreciate that they likely have lots of money to defend themselves and any kind of private prosecution would be costly. But the police should be pushed, hard, to prosecute

Yup. I live in a high population area that was shotgun only hunting up until about 20 years ago when the sport hunter lobby got rifles approved for just about everywhere. Now my roads are full of Rambo's with semi autos during hunting season. Bullets flying everywhere. We've had to put up heavy locked gates on all the drives in because they have no respect for signs and drive their trucks over wire. Its like being in a war zone. Just hate it. I use to hunt, grew up in the north where deer, ducks, and grouse were part of a families food supply. But something has to be done to limit this reckless macho sport hunting.

@JeniParsons I'd recommend getting Maremmas over Pyrenean Mountain Dogs btw. Great for defending your herd and they eat about half as much food as an adult.

They also terrify hunters, which is nice.
