      @grimalkina Ages ago somebody pointed out to me that making up explanations for things is how tech nerds show off their plumage and strut around each other like peacocks. And I have to tell you, there have been days when knowing that when the "well actually it's because" starts you should be hearing "caw caw caw (waggle)" has improved my outlook immensely.

            This seems oddly improved by the knowledge that, in Spanish, a peacock is a pavo real, a royal turkey.

              @grimalkina They need a good Ted Lasso-ing.

              "Be curious, not 'splainy."

              Someone needs to put that on a cross-stitch sampler.

                (I hated it. the whole thing was just toxic, but I could kind of see where it came from)

                  @grimalkina

                  I do not get the point. Isn't being curious the drive of one who wants to know more about something?

                    @77nn it's frustrating when the explanations are inaccurate (e.g., "this is explained already" while making a simplistic or inaccurate assumption about what the actual topic is)

                        @grimalkina I'm curious about the correlation between sociopathy and incuriousness.

                        @raganwald probably not quite sociopathy (although it might also produce this effect) I'd look at social dominance!

                          @grimalkina ok, I'm legit wondering now how we tech people developed this culture of "bullshit first, ask questions later".

                          Not to answer your curiosity with explanation (LOLL!!) but probably many things, we could investigate:
                          - social dominance (like contest cultures)
                          - habits created by a lot of only having short-term opportunities to get a point across so many skills of infodumping? (e.g., explain a technical tradeoff, subvert a bad decision)
                          - calibration failures? like often being rewarded by rapid brute forcing solutions & overextending that

                            @grimalkina I would like to never have to use the phrase: "This is the least curious product team I've ever met" ever again.

                            You can't teach curiosity.
