You'd think the question of popularity with the membership would be important but aiui only the PLP has a say.
Does the PLP think fewer of them will lose their seats in '29? That will be what determines the outcome. Maybe Rayner will have a go too.
I would guess most would prefer Burnham but as that's not an option right now do they support Starmer to dump him later or risk putting Streeting/Rayner in what could become an unassailable position?

@HarriettMB except it also … sort of isn’t? He’s very pointedly not launched a challenge. Which presumably means either that (1) he’s not got the numbers or (2) he’s got the numbers but doesn’t want to be seen to be the one wielding the knife?

@hedders As I just replied to another; I hope this costs #Streeting everything. His ministerial position is gone. He needs to lose any bid to be PM. And it would be delightful if he also lost the Whip. One #TERF down, one to go.
