Can anyone help me find my AirTag attached keys?

Can anyone help me find my AirTag attached keys? The FindMy app shows me their general location, which is a large public building where I last had them. When I go on site, my app is mostly unable to see them at all. Occasionally my app seems to be able to see a very weak signal but I can't seem to zero in on it. This is driving me nuts. I've looking now for two weeks. Anybody got tips?

@dangoodin i find that the directional thing only works within 4m of it; so if you’re catching a whiff of signal you should be close - potentially on another floor?

@phillmv @dangoodin I was going to say… one of my frustrations with “find my” is it assumes the earth is flat and doesn’t account for altitude.

This is a big problem in tall buildings and parking garages.

Maybe going up or down a level at a time would help get a better signal?

What they don’t say is that this uses Near Field sensing with a range that depends on your iPhone model and what’s around you when trying to use it. In general, the range is shorter than even Bluetooth. Often 4m or less. If you get any signal, you’re close even if the display isn’t giving you precise indications. Often close enough that you may be able to play a sound on the AirTag. If that doesn’t work, try backing out of Precision finding to see the map display, which could be easier to use from where you’re standing.
