I have asked a Pixelfed instance to join; I am still waiting, as they mentioned they need about 24 to 48 hours to make a decision. I have waited that long, and there's been no response. Should I wait or look for another server?

@Purplegengar25 Why only apply to one instance at a time? I would apply for multiple and try them all out and stick with the one you like. you can always delete the accounts you ain't gonna use.
