    Some prices are going crazy.

    Some of the @hetzner servers I usually lease, the AX102, now require a setup fee of more than €600 (!!!).

    I don't understand it. I know hardware prices are insane, but you're not actually buying the hardware. You're leasing it. And it's not new hardware.

    I'll try to make sure I keep the ones I already have, and I'm aware that one of my clients will be discontinuing one of those servers. I'll ask them to transfer ownership to me.

            @stefano @hetzner It's insane, but it's still coming from hardware price increases.

            Cloud providers have a hardware failure rate, so they're always having to decommission and buy hardware. They also need to maintain a pool of idle servers so they can spin things up when they get new customers/demand.

            To me, the setup fee is there to keep them solvent in the face of those rising hardware costs.

            I don't know their internal numbers, they might be overcharging.

            It sucks.

                @overeducatedredneck @hetzner it does. I understand it, more than 4x looks a little high.

                  @stefano @overeducatedredneck @hetzner Big servers spec'ed for hypervisor use at my work, that were 70k before, are being quoted at 230-250k each now, and pricing varies weekly. It's a wild time in the server hardware market.

                    @stefano @hetzner

                    And with those new expensive EX131 servers, you cant even add extra HDD's or SSD's...

                      @stefano @hetzner i usually also look at the auctions for a lot of the stuff i need: https://www.hetzner.com/sb/
                      No setup fee, no minimum runtime and sometimes quite a bit cheaper....
                      Though it can be a bit tougther to find someting fitting what you need (and for my usecases its mostly storage anyway, so i don't care if the cpus are older)
