I've lived in my current apartment building for nine years now. I generally like it - it's quiet, they haven't raised the rent on me in any significant way (i think i'm paying 10% more than I did when I moved in), its very conveniently located for access to all the important Stuff in the area.
I asked the leasing office if I could just move to a new apartment when my lease is up. Because after 10 years, your carpet gets a bit grotty, even with regular cleaning.

They said no, but they'd happily replace the carpet in my current unit. Which of course, basically requires me putting everything I own into storage and pulling it back out again. Really not as convenient as just moving in the same building.
Is my request just naïve? Is this something you'd ever expect an apartment complex to accomodate?
I've had automatic payments set up since day 1 and I'll probably be here until my neighbors report a funny smell so I just thought they might do me a favor.

@gloriouscow That sounds like nonsense to me. Considering the amount of effort to move all your stuff out for carpet removal, they basically said that your lease doesn't matter to them and that you should find a new place to live.
I'd almost want to clarify that with someone higher up the food chain in their staff. That sounds like a decision made by someone who is following the rules too closely in the hopes of not getting fired.

If the occupancy rate is high enough and they figure they can get a new tenant in, telling me to piss off is just one less apartment they have to refresh.
The main issue is I do not have a lot of leverage. The rent I am paying is 75% or less than any equivalent unit in the area.

@gloriouscow Ooof. Then its in their best interests to get you out and jack up the rent. *sigh*
Can you do a garage sale and lessen the amount of stuff you have so you can make it easier to move things in/out of the place? Moving out seems like a bad idea if your rent is under market and you like the neighborhood.
