      @fedizen I have switched off my location function. When I go to my hometown I switch off WiFi too. I will at least try to prevent being followed.

        @fedizen

        We're blaming the advertisers for something their middlemen do. Advertisers want to know two things:
        - Is this site Road and Track?
        - Does this reader visit car-sales sites?
        If both are true, they get an ad for a Maserati.
        Maserati pays some thousandths of a cent to R&T.

        The middlemen who feed this trickle of information to the advertisers, gobble all the other information to sell to someone else. They know that the complaints will go to the advertisers.
        (PS: Google is easily the biggest middleman)

          @davecb @fedizen

          The infrastructure of advertising is the same as the infrastructure of propaganda.

            @fenixmaster @fedizen if you read Google.xml somewhere in your root directory you will find that Google play services has unrestricted access to location, it ignores everything

                @fenixmaster @fedizen sadly no. But you can keep play services disabled. If it's disabled location services won't work for anything.
                And you want to go further you can uninstall everything from Google with adb/canta

                      @Aphrodite @fedizen Hugely agree: advertising *is* propaganda.
