Well, in my actual house, now, my bedroom is also my library. Six book cases, double stacked, with more books stacked on the roof of each book case up to the ceiling, plus one built-in set of wall shelves filled with books, plus books stacked on the floor under the bed. A good bookish clutter.

But now you've started me imagining an air castle house, with nice spacious uncluttered libraries. Playing the game of mentally furnishing them is fun! I think I'd have three libraries:

One, a room with bookcases around all the walls, built in, with sliding ladders to reach the higher shelves. No windows, no outside distractions. Big soft squishy comfortable armchairs lose myself in a book. Big thick engrossing books here, thousands of pages, building their own worlds. No clock.

Second, a room with big windows, lots of natural light, views of trees and birds and the weather and seasons. Low bookcases all around, just as high as the waist height of the windowsills. Light reading here, cozy mysteries, humorous short stories, old favorite children's books. I'd have uphostered window seats, and a beanbag chair.

Third, a library for books that will involve me in taking notes. A couple of writing tables at different heights, with various chairs and stools, to sit however feels comfortable. Piles of notebooks, bins of pens and pencils, and a coffeepot. All the most fascinating and engrossing nonfiction books here, magically replenished with new works.
