    @CiaraNi kig evt @filen leger også god med Linux og er fra Tyskland.
    Pcloud har jeg ikke personligt prøvet men skulle også være god og er fra Schweiz.
    Internxt er også en eu udbyder, mener de er fra Spanien.

      @CiaraNi

      Talking from experience I'd add one thing (if it's a manual action):

      Regular calendar reminder to actually do the backup.

      edit: not that the reminder actually makes one do the action.. but it's a start.

      @Pepijn it does actually, if you make backing things up easy enough. 😅
      This is super nerdy, but I have an entry in my monitoring software that expects at least one manual backup per week. "Manual" means that I have to take a USB drive and plug it in. With some Linux magic, once this exact drive is plugged it, it will automatically start a backup job and send me a push notification when it's done and tell my monitoring that a backup was created. 😁
      If I forget about it, I'll get nagging reminders until I do it.

          @Pepijn Thanks, that's a good tip. Yes, it's a manual back-up. Just like in the old days, back when the internet was enjoyable. I have now, literally this minute, put a reminder in my calendar. Tak.

          @CiaraNi Super!

          I wasn't trying to be pedantic btw. It's just that we have the same setup and even though I DO remember (I told myself "this is a thing on the first sunday of the month") for the past months life got in the way.

          And then on Friday evening my laptop crapped out.. I eventually fixed it but it would've been very frustrating to have the backup disk be very much out of date.

                      Before I could pick my 2026 goal for #DanmarkSkifter, I did a digital status. I was mildly surprised when I saw my 2025 digital changes together. I looked at the list and thought: ’Tell me you hang out in the Fediverse without telling me you hang out in the Fediverse.’

                      From Outlook to Tuta
                      From Office to Libre
                      From MS Authenticator to Ente Authenticator
                      From Google Play to F-Droid
                      From Spotify to AntennaPod
                      From Firefox to Vivaldi
                      From DuckDuckGo to NoAIDuckDuckGo
                      And I bought a back-up drive.

                      I'll install AntennaPod and see how it behaves under real use. Vivaldi is on my list already; curious whether it outperforms Brave. The noai DuckDuckGo endpoint is new to me. Noted. Worth poking with a stick.

                        @sebastian @Flatus Thanks for the tip. I did browse around in NextCloud's solutions but couldn't see a simple off-the-shelf one for a non-tech person like me who just wants it to plug-and-play work. I've been waiting to see Tuta's drive. Then the DanmarkSkifter campaign nudged to me to stop faffing around - get off OneDrive now, get the photos backed up, then pick the right cloud solution after that. Otherwise I'll never take that final step.

                          @jakobtougaard Jeg var ikke på Facebook, som giver udfordringer i dagligdagen (man er udelukket fra så meget) men til gengæld så slipper jeg for at skifte fra den. Twitter droppede jeg for Mastodon i 2022. Men WhatsApp, yikes - det er problembarnet. Jeg er på Signal men det er familien og de fleste venner ikke. Jeg kan derfor ikke slette WhatsApp endnu af samme årsag som du nævner. Jeg håber meget at der er en Tipping Point på vej også for WhastApp.

                                @Pepijn Oh I didn't take it as pedantic at all! I have been out of the backing-up habit for years, so I did need a nudge there. It did happen to me many moons ago, where I lost more than I would have liked because I'd slacked on back-ups. So a reminder to do a regular reminder was appreciated. (Am glad you didn't lose your stuff, by the way.)

                                    ’Denmark Switches.’ A national campaign to collectively move off Big Tech. March 20th is Big Switch Day. I’ve named my goal now. I’m already almost deMicrosofted, except for my photo archive. I moved to Libre & Tuta mail and have been purging photos as I await the release of Tuta drive. Now I’m committing myself to just get the photos off OneDrive and on to my computer, that I own, in my house, by March 20th. Then I’ll delete Microsoft. Then I’ll boast about it on the Fediverse.

                                    @CiaraNi I perceive that the desire for (digital) independence is growing in #Europe – and I believe that this is a positive development – for Europe and for each individual!

Otherwise I'll never take that final step.

                                        which makes a lot of sense _ not everything has to be shiny cloud, all the time.
                                        with the low prices of large USB drives etc - sometimes local backup is just enough.

                                          @lassegismo There does seem to be a momentum at the moment to just get away from US tech as quickly as possible
