@joshbuddy @CiaraNi usefathom was not mentioned by Privacy Badger.

I don't prefer any analytics. Let them work with focus groups while in development, and when in production.

@arosano "Let them work with focus groups while in development, and when in production"

It's not a Broligarch start-up. It's a community-based movement that is driven, as far as I know, a lot by volunteer efforts. They are trying to create a momentum to make people aware of the problems with Big Tech and to help them move off it in manageable steps. They are creating community energy. I don't feel a need to drain that energy by nitpicking at them.

@locadeserta Ah this is familiar! Once I got my lovely shiny new SDD, I was startled to discover how sloooowly the process of downloading my images was. It's taking me weeks, bit by bit, to get through the still ongoing process. But it's good because it's made me make better choices about what files to keep.

@CiaraNi @locadeserta Watch out for bit rot though, spinning disks are better for long term storage than SSDs.

@arosano I think I'm the wrong person to ask. I don't know anything about their website set-up. And I'm wary of purity tests, especially when people are trying to start a community movement.

@CiaraNi Also if purity is used as an argument for no longer doing as we've done so far?

@CiaraNi so because it is a community effort it is ok to use the same methods as big tech? In my book that is wrong.

@CiaraNi @Pepijn @Su_G Although you won't have a dedicated app, but you need to use any app which can work with webdav or ssh/sftp. In my case, I only use software using ssh/sftp so it sounds perfect to me. When I get it I will write a toot although it can take me some time (I won't do it before some deadlines...). But I have an idea of how I will organize my staff complimentary to what i am doing right now...

’Denmark Switches.’ A national campaign to collectively move off Big Tech. March 20th is Big Switch Day. I’ve named my goal now. I’m already almost deMicrosofted, except for my photo archive. I moved to Libre & Tuta mail and have been purging photos as I await the release of Tuta drive. Now I’m committing myself to just get the photos off OneDrive and on to my computer, that I own, in my house, by March 20th. Then I’ll delete Microsoft. Then I’ll boast about it on the Fediverse.

@johnlorimer Agreed. I think we are. It feels like there's momentum now. Including in Denmark, where the threats to Greenland have made opposition to US dominance and behaviour a casual topic of of normal everyday conversation.

@johnlorimer I procrastinated for ages too. I finally started making actual switches when I stopped thinking that I had to do it all at once. I started just moving away from Big Tech step by step, at my own tempo, and am pleasantly surprised to see that there is an accumulated effect. I'm getting there, we're all getting there 🙂

@Nielsulf De lyder som gode anbefalinger. Tak.

Before I could pick my 2026 goal for #DanmarkSkifter, I did a digital status. I was mildly surprised when I saw my 2025 digital changes together. I looked at the list and thought: ’Tell me you hang out in the Fediverse without telling me you hang out in the Fediverse.’

                            From Outlook to Tuta
                            From Office to Libre
From MS Authenticator to Ente Authenticator
                            From Google Play to F-Droid
                            From Spotify to AntennaPod
                            From Firefox to Vivaldi
                            From DuckDuckGo to NoAIDuckDuckGo
                            And I bought a back-up drive.

I've added a new 2026 Digital Resolution to my 'Denmark switches from Big Tech' goals.

I had already switched from Patreon to Steady. Thanks to @JohanEmpa for making that possible after he added Steady as a Mastodon.green payment option.

Now my Microsoft subscription is the only thing left on PayPal and I'm almost deMicrosofted. So I'll be cancelling, not renewing, that. So now I commit to deleting my PayPal account. Today. Inspired by @oldrup, who just did this.

@hpmaennicke A European alternative - ah. I hadn't heard of it. Thanks for the tip.

@CiaraNi That's even a rather big step! Am still moving slowly in regard to payment, so your success is inspiring.

@CiaraNi found a few things with the steady branding, but in guessing it's this: https://steady.page/? I'd like recommend an alternative to creators I support on Patreon. But Steady's credit card fees + 10% commission seems quite steep.
I use https://liberapay.com/ wherever that's an option. I also like being able to have the monthly support charged as a lumpsum to reduce fees further. But unfortunately they don't have an ad-free RSS link for podcast functionality, which is my biggest Patreon spend.
