They just added a possibility to implement it, if someone want to use it. They didn't implement age verification (afaik). It's not communicated very well.

But I don't see a huge ethical distance between implementation and making the tools for implementation, since you mentioned it.

Put it this way. If the birthDate field had been a politicalParty field, would you think there was a big difference between that and implementing OS political tracking?
