@mwl B5 was brilliant, though the final series was screwed up by the studios (where have we heard that before?). For the time and budget the effects were amazing.

I always thought the politics were overly simple and blunt, but now living through the same I realise that they were painfully accurate.

@mwl Yes, yes you should. I've been meaning to rewatch it.

At a time when "edgy Star Trek" was "the replicator is broken," B5 and its conflicts, and its very serial story line, was a breath of fresh air.

@mwl JMS was uncanny in drawing on the past and predicting a future both near and far. The parallels from its many story arcs to today is amazing. I keep expected to see a shimmer of a #Shadow standing behind #MrTaCO

#Babylon5 Is worth watching. The character of G'Kar is especially brilliant #B5

@mwl You have to trudge through season 1. And mostly end with season 4. There are a few good episodes in 5. But seasons 2-4 are legendary for mostly good reasons

@sng @mwl I had to expand this post to see which series you were referring to, because it applies to too many.

@phessler @sng I'm pretty sure there's something structural in how TV is created that causes Bad Season 1 Syndrome.

@mwl It was very good. The first half of season 5 kind of falls down, but when they start wrapping up the show, it picks back up. Seasons 2-4 are the best, IMO, and were the best sci-fi on TV at the time.

@mwl @phessler @sng b5 s1 "suffers" because it has to do an immense amount of world building so that s2-4 make any sense at all.

@mwl @phessler @sng Babylon 5 Season 1 has a lot going for it, but they had to drop several big storylines for real life reasons (Michael O’Hare, the lead, had major health issues and bowed out). Season 2 is perceived as better at least in part because it’s the start of the continuity with the rest of the show.
