I built an ICE tracking app that can't be pulled from the App Store. Because it was never in one.

Last October, the Trump administration made a couple of phone calls and got Apple and Google to remove every ICE tracking app from their stores. ICEBlock, the most popular one, had over a million downloads. Gone overnight. No court order. No law...

@VE7WYC I hope they have an alternative domain, because ".app" is managed by Google, so "Google can't pull it" looks a bit like a challenge.

@VE7WYC It's not the hosting (apparently in the EU and fronted by ClownFlare), it's the name.

Nobody in ICE cares that the server still runs when it's not reachable under antifreeze.app anymore, and that name is a US-based asset.

I reached out to them, maybe there are contingencies already, maybe they'll plan for that.
