Also if you are an American reading this, I’ll be clear: it’s not hard feelings.

    It’s the threats of annexation
    It’s the support of separatists
It’s the demanding access to all social media
It’s the killing of citizens and non citizens
    It’s the concentration camps
It’s the support that the above has by Americans who are totally cool with what’s happening.

Yeah 25% off at a ski hill in Maine doesn’t deal with ANY of that.

@lifewithtrees I'm on the other side of the Pacific and I feel this in my bones. The fact Americans don't... well, it's a worry

@lifewithtrees Those same Americans had a fit when France wouldn’t go to war with Iraq. To the degree that they renamed French fries “freedom fries” and other assorted nonsense.

MAGAts need to feel the economic hardship of Republicans turning the US into a pariah state.

@lifewithtrees Most of my friends who are white and middle class say this too. They are unaware of what it is like in this moment to have to stand in front of an American border guard or ICE agent and justify yourself with minimal legal protections. They are never in this situation.

My American friends who are people of colour totally understand this reaction.

@lifewithtrees American here, and I disagree. "Gaslighting" means it's intentional. I think you're overestimating the intelligence and self-awareness of my fellow countrycreatures. American exceptionalism is the product of a pathological lack of self-knowledge.

@lifewithtrees My partner and I live in Las Vegas and are very sad about the recent lack of Canadian and other international tourism but I totally understand why it's happening and can't blame anyone for staying away! 💔

@lifewithtrees We drove down to Key Largo a little over a week ago, and US1 looked like it did during the COVID lockdowns. I hadn't thought about the tourism hit the Keys would take, but it was very evident.

@lifewithtrees oh that's interesting; thanks for the ref. Apparently you can be manipulative without having a clue about what's going on. It's just a technique, a set of stereotyped responses. I'll buy that, although I still think that "gaslighting" gives us too much credit. Charles Boyer had a specific goal. He wasn't abusing just as a power play.

can't imagine why folks would object to illegal searches, harassment, imprisonment. just part of the US experience, right?

                        SMDH...

i can't imagine why anyone would want to cross a US border right now.

@paul_ipv6 @lifewithtrees isn't the experience in china or saudi arabia more pleasant?
At least there are rules, and they play by the rules, so you know when you might get killed or jailed for life.
In the US there are no more rules. And nobody is going to visit a country with a lottery about what might happen

This is shifting the blame on to Canadians rather than on the US 🙅🤦

Accountability means the US needs to own their own mess.

@lifewithtrees I've (politely) commented on YouTube videos where presenter says some milquetoast comment about Canadians staying away due to some excuse like exchange rates to say explicitly we are going elsewhere becuase of Trumps anti democratic behaviour and belligerence to Canada.

The main reply I get is "stay home commie"

Geniuses the general American public is.
