@lifewithtrees I would have love to be able to go to Chicago next month for an event related to cancer. But I clearly mentionned a few months ago to the organizer that I won’t take the risk to get arrested at the border... 🤷‍♀️And they understand and respect my decision.

@adelinej I’m glad they understood. I’ve said something to some folks and was called a snowflake for not wanting to go.

It’s a very defensive posture after the US causing the offense.

We know what our government did and continues to do. Canadian response is perfectly logical and appreciated.

Anybody saying anything else is a liar or a fool.

Second this. If I could un-visit myself, I would.

        Staying out:
        1. keeps you safe from State sponsored and run terrorism
        2. keeps you out of an inhumane and immoral concentration camp
        3. hurts pocketbooks, which is the only language the power structures understand
        4. provides a needed spotlight
… and probable a plethora of other goods things.

          That is gaslighting, you're right.

I sure would love it if it were safe to be here. But it's fucking not.

@lifewithtrees On the american side of it; I've encountered people with a similar attitude who seem to have no awareness whatsoever of how much abuse the current administration has been throwing at Canada, specifically.
More are aware of the immigration & visa issues, broadly, but a distressing number don't realize that european and canadian migrants and visitors have not been immune to it. (+ the gaslighting; the ignorance is in addition to, not instead of, the abuse.)

can't imagine why folks would object to illegal searches, harassment, imprisonment. just part of the US experience, right?

              SMDH...

i can't imagine why anyone would want to cross a US border right now.

It started with we don't want to economically support a country that started an economic war with us but ended with we don't want to be sent to concentration camps.

@lifewithtrees Canada is taking this threat seriously, as well it should. The US already did a regime change in Venezuela and is pressing Cuba really hard right now. Its militarily and financial backed a drastic shift in power in the middle east with Israel as a proxy. When push comes to shove, the US has the technical capacity to bust up a lot of shit and probably decapitate governments. Whether it has the appetite and ability to consolidate conquests is another thing entirely.

I keep wondering what the US response would be if the shoe was on the other foot - Absolute f*cking hissy fits and then some 🤣 which would be "justified" and "appropriate," of course.

@lifewithtrees @robyn Personally I don't blame anyone for not wanting to come here. I've been thinking about leaving. (Not that it would ever be within my means to actually do it, especially now that our dear leader has fixed the economy up so nicely.)

Also if you are an American reading this, I’ll be clear: it’s not hard feelings.

                              It’s the threats of annexation
                              It’s the support of separatists
It’s the demanding access to all social media
It’s the killing of citizens and non citizens
                              It’s the concentration camps
It’s the support that the above has by Americans who are totally cool with what’s happening.

Yeah 25% off at a ski hill in Maine doesn’t deal with ANY of that.

@lifewithtrees I mean, I'm American and wouldn't feel entirely safe flying back there under the current regime, so it makes perfect sense to me that people who aren't US citizens would feel unsafe visiting the US.

Also if you are an American reading this, I’ll be clear: it’s not hard feelings.

                                      It’s the threats of annexation
                                      It’s the support of separatists
It’s the demanding access to all social media
It’s the killing of citizens and non citizens
                                      It’s the concentration camps
It’s the support that the above has by Americans who are totally cool with what’s happening.

Yeah 25% off at a ski hill in Maine doesn’t deal with ANY of that.

@lifewithtrees I'm on the other side of the Pacific and I feel this in my bones. The fact Americans don't... well, it's a worry

@lifewithtrees It's all that for most of us on the inside, too.

It’s so weird seeing American folks worried about the drop in Canadian tourism and saying it’s due to Canadians having “hard feelings” and wondering why we can’t just put them aside.

It’s gaslighting and yet another reason not to go. Yeesh. 🙄

@lifewithtrees Those same Americans had a fit when France wouldn’t go to war with Iraq. To the degree that they renamed French fries “freedom fries” and other assorted nonsense.

MAGAts need to feel the economic hardship of Republicans turning the US into a pariah state.
