@pewnack @WaitingForTheSign @dyckron of course, moving away from the sort of agriculture that the native Americans practiced to that of massive monoculture and annual crops over perennials (Good King Henry, anyone?) won't have helped. Farmers, for most of history, used to look at things long-term, trying to keep the soil good for generations, then came the industrial agriculture of the late 19th and early 20th century.
