I hate how tipping culture normalises giving such tiny amounts in countries where the exchange rate and/or wage expectations make the "expected" amounts small.

I hate how tipping culture normalises giving such tiny amounts in countries where the exchange rate and/or wage expectations make the "expected" amounts small. feels ghoulish seeing people who clearly have six figure incomes tipping what would be about £2 back home.
(I mean, abolish tip culture entirely imo, but in the meantime...)

naturally if you search "tipping amounts [country]" from the UK you find expat forums where everyone there has the ethics and worldview of an 1800s era British Museum explorer.

@gsuberland
if a lovely meal that you’d happily pay £50^ for costs you £5 somewhere else then tip £10 or £15 or whatever – make someone’s (or several someones’) life a bit easier / nicer for a little while
^ or whatever, I’m in Aus & don’t know UK prices -
