That's not to say they don't plan on spying on us all the time or that they wouldn't rather rent access to the Internet at exorbitant prices but that's not how the Internet works, people aren't obliged to play along, and the biggest victim in the short term are tech companies themselves.

This is mostly to keep the "AI" hype train going a little longer by promising explosive growth in a sector that already doesn't make money.
Ironically, the overreach may finally blow it open by making it more trouble than it's worth.
