External design is much less relevant (though it's what most people criticize about China's vehicles) than #batteries, #chassis's, #drivetrains, and #charging #infrastructure, most areas where %China is ahead, exponentially, at every level of the market.

Yes, #China also uses slave labor in the #EV market, but the #US also uses lots of slave labor, though not in the EV market, I don't think.
In the U.S., slave labor is used primarily in #agriculture, #retail #manufacturing, and other consumer-focused industries rather than in #research or #industrial manufacturing.
All prison labor is #slavery, even when the inmates are paid (pennies of the minimum wage) because refusal to participate is punished, as allowed by the #Constitution.
