      @thomasfuchs
      No, but the AI crowd wants everything to be predictable, measured, and removed from pesky diversity of thought and expression. Random is resistance.

        @thomasfuchs I totally agree. I miss when humans were on the other end, and the world wasn't curated to the point of it being a prison.

          @thomasfuchs There are many like you, and nothing is stopping you from doing that.
          There are also many that enjoy the new capabilities for creativity with AI. Both can exist.

            @itismeagain @thomasfuchs not if the tools are baked into software in ways that make it difficult avoid, & not if senior management (or even just direct managers) are all-in on the hype and tie salary & job performance reviews to “AI” (🙄) adoption

            and while there are ways to be genuinely creative using generative AI tools for (e.g.) image generation, this is not what the tools are designed to do – they’re designed to ingest other people’s creativity & regurgitate it in a watered-down, blander version of the original

              @thomasfuchs I have the feeling that all those tech bos don't get that it is not about the end result but about the process of creating things that is so satisfying. It can be hard and tedious to write and think and learning to make art but it is incredibly satisfying.

                @thomasfuchs AI is going to get so prevalent ant ubiquitous, that we humans will have to create closed spaces to seek refuge in. We will use shibboleths to prove our humanity (and change them every time AI picks them up and learns to mimic them).
                Then we'll realize the only real refuge is offline, and the Internet will die for good.
                ...Then, the AI will contaminate the offline world too. Somehow.

                  @itismeagain @thomasfuchs You missed the point. Superficial skill is no skill at all.
