@nina_kali_nina Trying to remember which town it was in Scotland that had a barometer next to a little lighthouse. It had been installed at some considerable expense when instruments like this were not common and fishermen would check it before committing to go out in their small boats. It was a potentially life-saving instrument for them.

My grandparents house has one, from what I can tell it does seem to work pretty well! Quite useful knowing whether it will rain a few hours in advance on the farm.
