    @bloor
    It's not. Sequel was a predecessor of SQL.

    Pronouncing SQL "sequel" is like pronouncing Windows "DOS".

    @leeloo @bloor It makes sense if you're spanish, because first there's Windows DOS and then there's Windows Tres Punto Uno.

                @mansr @me_ @bloor Meanwhile my father rendered it as "hotmetal." "Hotmeal" would make sense too, though.

                  @bloor I do find it random what TLAs people pronounce and what they don't. I mean obviously "sequel" is superior to "ess cue ell": there's no contest in that one.

                  But I've met people who say VEE AYE (vi) and EEE TEE CEE (et-cee).

                  On the other hand, there's a pit in the inferno reserved for people who say JOT instead of JAY DOUBLE-U TEE.

                    @countablenewt I will always treasure the memory of a cow-orker who once pronounced SQL*Plus as "squeal! splat! plus!" (I am well aware he was not the only one) @greem @bloor

                            @greem @bloor David Duchovny’s character from Twin Peaks, Denise.

                            The first Denise that sprang to my mind, after Debbie Harry and Denis 🥰
