While we're talking about neighborhood watch targeting every Black person, and this not being a Southern thing or a GOP thing, but an anti-Black thing...

@mekkaokereke
Flock Safety, Palantir, etc. say "we want to eliminate all crime" but they aren't pointing the cameras, facial recognition, data brokers, AI tech, etc. at the people doing crimes, it's about ultra wealthy racists controlling people's movement & freedoms... none of us should be helping that on the daily Epstein's trafficking and influence network being the most obvious/immediate example but plenty of others
@joecardillo @mekkaokereke Joe, you might like this video! About third party fascist surveillance like this. A good, clear explainer of some of the ideas.

I still remember when a bunch of Silicon Valley Venture Capital favorites saw a Black man working on his car in San Francisco in 2020.
Because they have no clue what normal people do in life, they thought that this car was being stripped for parts

️. They viewed it as a sign of lawlessness of San Francisco, and urged police to do more to keep people safe.It didn't even occur to them that this Black man both owns the car, and lives in the neighborhood.
This would be funny. But these VCs that don't know anything, are funding and starting surveillance and enforcement companies that they think will reduce crime. This won't work because they know nothing about crime or how they reduce it. They only know this.
The ignorance + confidence combo, can be just as dangerous for Black people as the enemy action of the intentionally white nationalist VCs.
When I do a little work on the car in the road in front of my house - which I occasionally do because we have a single lane driveway - no one ever thinks I’m up to no good. But then again, I’m white, in a predominantly white suburban neighbourhood, which of course is your point.

@mekkaokereke Yeah, I've lived in a few apartment complexes that had parking lots with plenty of room to work on a car, but the lease always prohibited it. So presumably then you've gotta choose between being harassed on the street or getting evicted in the lot...

@mekkaokereke meanwhile I doubt there's even one half-billionaire capable of changing the bulb in a refrigerator without a round of funding to manage the ordeal

@mekkaokereke Feels like they were projecting since venture capitalists are basically vultures.

@mekkaokereke When I was a teenager, one of my friends came over to hang out, play SNES, lift some weights. We worked out together and went out for a run. I was slower than him and couldn’t run as long so I took the lead to set our pace. Plus it was my neighborhood so I knew the roads better. We had someone from the neighborhood watch pull up next to us and yell at him to stop chasing me or they’d call the cops. I know this is going to shock the heck out of everyone but he’s black.

This reminds me of when my dad told me he realized my grandparents were racist. Dad loved to play basketball as a kid and had a black friend who he played basketball with in the driveway. Said black friend was never allowed in the house. This was deep south Louisiana in the 60's but that story has always tempered/tarnished my memories of my grandparents since.

@FuturisticRobert
I had a similar more compartmental situation growing up as a kid. Had a white friend whose house I was allowed to enter. However, for some unknown reason to me at the time I was never allowed in the living room, even when his dad was not home. I always had to go straight to my friend’s room and that was the only place I was ever allowed to be. -

@FuturisticRobert @sayonaraminasan @mekkaokereke "WTF America" is actually the official name of the country, we've just been abbreviating it.
