@kuriko At work I have to use vscode. But there is also an open source-variant of vscode called "VSCodium" (it's more or less the same as VS Code, but without Telemetry). https://vscodium.com/

@kuriko yes. That or vscodium. Rarely eclipse/eclipse-based editors.
I'd like to try some cli based ones, but the learning curve is too steep.

@kuriko@wetdry.world I use Jetbrain IDEs most of the time. VSCode I only use for languages that have none or only limited support in Jetbrains, like for example Gleam or Elixir. I also use vim for simple stuff, but it's just not enough for more complex things.
A friend tried to teach me neovim, but it seems not worth the effort of setting it up properly right now. I also wanted to take a look at Zed and Helix at some point.

@kuriko@wetdry.world I use vscode more like a text editor than an IDE. in my opinion the distinction is "do I have to leave the program to do other stuff while developing software" and indeed yeah like half my workflow that isn't text editing is command line based. I don't ever use the runner functionality from vscode for instance, instead it's cargo run or whatever equivalent.

                but yes. I use vscode.

@kuriko IntelliJ Idea Community for Java, Rider Non-Conmercial for C# and Kate for everything else. I used to use VSCode but the focus on AI was driving me nuts, Electron apps always suck and an update making all of the fonts invisible ended up being the last straw for me.

I used to use codium, but Microsoft restricts that in weird ways.

Used vim/later neovim for most of my time programming.

And recently switched to eMacs. Which’s doing everything I want from an IDE that neovim wasn’t. (And for its reputation is surprisingly easy to learn if you use a modern distro like doom)

@kuriko@wetdry.world Hannah does not use vscode. If it had to use an "out-of-the-box" IDE... it would use vscodium (a fork without the Microslop branding).
Nowadays it tends to use Helix. It's a terminal editor yes yes.... but it does the work for this one.
Eyeing Neovim with lazyvim rn.... but will probably stay with Helix.

@piku@blahaj.zone @kuriko@wetdry.world okay sure technicality with my definition. I use a mix of integrated terminal and external terminal. this does not matter; I consider teaching for both as "leaving vscode"
