Can you write in cursive?

@futurebird Another lefty chiming in here. When I took the GREs, I had to copy a small paragraph that stated I wouldn’t cheat, and it HAD to be in cursive.
It took me about five minutes of mental and physical strain to finish.
I do print at a normalish pace, and thankfully I was a stubborn little fuck as a kid, so I think if someone tried to make me write righthanded I’d ask why until they wanted to puke while still writing lefty.
@futurebird And of course tell my parents about this dumb person who didn’t know that being a lefty was COOL. It made me unique. Also gave me an advantage in baseball when at bat…not so much when looking for catcher’s mitts.
My handwriting is definitely messy, but I don’t feel ashamed of it. There are some quirks to it that make it especially inscrutable to others, but I LIKE those, because they’re unique and they’re mine. That’s MY stamp there, and I like it.

As a tutor and teaching I've learned to write upside down (eg I can write so you can read it when I'm sitting face to face with you. )
I'm a little flattered by how much it freaks people out. But it's not hard. Just imagine your wrist is extra flexible and you are writing right side up.
I can't do mirror writing and that makes me sad... but someday I'll learn.
And then, boustrophedon!

@superflippy @futurebird I can write and read braille upside down which is necessary for a braille teacher. Also when you write braille with a slate and stylus you are writing it backward because you are literally punching every hole out from behind. I can sign my name in cursive, but if I'm going to write print letters, they are not in cursive and I have to remember how the lines go and often I write them backwards or upside down because I forget which way they point. Also my handwriting looks like that of a particularly hyper six-year-old. I can read raised print such as the numbers on a credit card with my fingertips but writing is harder because I don't do it but once every few years.
@pawpower @futurebird I never thought of braille being backwards when you write with a stylus, but now that you describe it it makes perfect sense. Wild!

Regardless if it's cursive or not, do you like your handwriting?
@futurebird I can write in cursive, and when I make notes for myself what comes out is a blend of block and cursive. For readability for others I write block.
Never thought about it, but I've been told my block writing is nice.

Can you write in cursive?
@futurebird yes but not that you could read it

@futurebird Other: I don't give a f. If I have to handwrite, it's most probably a note to myself. It's also probably a bunch of squiggly lines only I know how to read. Like I literally replace certain parts of certain words with a squiggly line because in context, the shape will be enough for me to know what it means.

@futurebird My handwriting has always been awful.
Was very jealous when my cousins went to live in france and had their cursive corrected. There were school classes for international students.@BenCotterill Lucky them! I'm French and my cursive is just awful. My fingers tend to live their own life, which doesn't help. The way I use my keyboard is an insult to keyboard designers.

My handwriting looks pretty much exactly like comic sans...to the point where my folks thought I'd gotten an personalized font when it first came out.
I like it - a lot of people angrily don't

Can you write in cursive?
@futurebird I love writing cursive, I'm just always insecure if other people can read cursive. Not because of my handwriting, more if they ever learned to.
My mom owned books printed in cursive and that was hard to read when I was a kid -

While I was a teaching assistant in university, I practiced "open arm" writing on the white board. So I wrote all of the math equations as if I were using a pointer, rather than facing the board. So you get to see what I was writing without having to look over my shoulder, because I was facing the class.
That made a lot of students happy, because they could actually see and hear what I was writing at the same time.
But it also tripped some people out, because apparently it was pretty unique.

@futurebird whats ironical about all of this is that my ex was in essentially the same school system as i was close to the same time, and no one ever harped on them about their handwriting. and its fucking chicken scratch.
all i can think of is that girls need good penmanship, boys do not. 🤮
@emily_rugburn @futurebird I received an award at grade six “graduation” ceremonies for most improved handwriting. (Circa 1979)
It was because I was no longer required to use cursive and switched to printing.
Within the past decade I made a conscious effort to relearn cursive. I don’t write often but I do like my current cursive better than my printing. -
