    Regardless if it's cursive or not, do you like your handwriting?

    @futurebird Other — I like to write by hand, it’s my preferred writing method by far, but my handwriting is kinda ugly

      @futurebird It’s not much different than how you learned to write upside down. I taught myself to write backwards with my left hand back in high school. But I can only do it in cursive!

      @superflippy @futurebird I can write and read braille upside down which is necessary for a braille teacher. Also when you write braille with a slate and stylus you are writing it backward because you are literally punching every hole out from behind. I can sign my name in cursive, but if I'm going to write print letters, they are not in cursive and I have to remember how the lines go and often I write them backwards or upside down because I forget which way they point. Also my handwriting looks like that of a particularly hyper six-year-old. I can read raised print such as the numbers on a credit card with my fingertips but writing is harder because I don't do it but once every few years.

          @jmax @geonz

          As a tutor and teaching I've learned to write upside down (eg I can write so you can read it when I'm sitting face to face with you. )

          I'm a little flattered by how much it freaks people out. But it's not hard. Just imagine your wrist is extra flexible and you are writing right side up.

          I can't do mirror writing and that makes me sad... but someday I'll learn.

          @futurebird @jmax Yes, I learned that too. I *think* I could do mirror writing too. I sort of visualize what it should look like and trace what I "see."
          Now, I can't (I don't think 😛 ) do *cursive* upside down.

            @futurebird needs more options:

            🤥 yes, definitely, for sure!
            😖 yes but I don’t do all the letters exactly right
            💅 only when I’m feeling fancy

                  @futurebird Mind blown! In the "yes, every day" category.
                  Wasn't aware that some people don't write in cursive, that it is optional.

                    @futurebird while taking notes it kinda naturally blends into halfway to cursive because it’s easier just to keep the pen moving than stopping and starting all the time

                        @futurebird @penpencilbrush Strangely I’d only write in cursive when I’d write numbers on a cheque. And I haven’t written a cheque in years.

                          @futurebird

                          I journal every night, in cursive. Supposedly it helps with memory retention, which I struggle with. But I often substitute a printed letter or 2, because imo some cursive letters just look dumb (mostly the capitalized ones, if they are too different from the printed version).

                          One time a lady complimented my handwriting, and I’ll never forget how surprised and pleased that made me feel. I think it’s barely legible.

                            @Virginicus @futurebird Oh I did have one teacher try very very hard to force me to write right-handed. She absolutely hated me with a passion. I guess somehow I didn't get at the time what a terrible person she was. When she first did it everyone else was watching a movie and I was forced to do handwriting lessons. But she didn't stand there over me, so I pretty much just watched the movie across the divider while pretending to do the lessons.

                            It's very weird to me that people actually treated being left-handed as actually evil.

                              @futurebird The only time I don't is if I'm writing my email address or if I legally have to for something. Even then I occasionally make some characters slightly cursive because I struggle with print.

                                @futurebird when I was about 8 or 9 the Lord of the Rings movies had just come out and I remember seeing an ad with the Elvish writing and I came to the conclusion that "that's how sorcerers write so I need to write like that because one day I'm gonna be a sorcerer!". So I did 😁

                                At school we had to learn cursive to get a pen licence. It took me twice as long to get mine than anyone else and my teacher was horrible about it. But to this day I still write like a sorcerer and I use pen and paper more than anything else for my writing. Even more than 2 decades later I still love writing like a sorcerer and there's nothing as magical as pen and paper to me 😁

                                    @futurebird Another lefty chiming in here. When I took the GREs, I had to copy a small paragraph that stated I wouldn’t cheat, and it HAD to be in cursive.

                                    It took me about five minutes of mental and physical strain to finish.

                                    I do print at a normalish pace, and thankfully I was a stubborn little fuck as a kid, so I think if someone tried to make me write righthanded I’d ask why until they wanted to puke while still writing lefty.

                                      @futurebird And of course tell my parents about this dumb person who didn’t know that being a lefty was COOL. It made me unique. Also gave me an advantage in baseball when at bat…not so much when looking for catcher’s mitts.

                                      My handwriting is definitely messy, but I don’t feel ashamed of it. There are some quirks to it that make it especially inscrutable to others, but I LIKE those, because they’re unique and they’re mine. That’s MY stamp there, and I like it.

                                          @pawpower @futurebird I never thought of braille being backwards when you write with a stylus, but now that you describe it it makes perfect sense. Wild!
