    @Sempf @jerry I misread this, I thought it asked what was used before UUCP, and I was all, "Nothing, it did not exist before UUCP."

    I was very confused.

    @nuintari @jerry that's pretty funny. Yeah, there wasn't really anything before UUCP, was there?

      Due to ongoing pressure from governments globally, we are instituting an age verification program. Recognizing that it is not possible to confirm your age based on a picture of your face, we will instead be counting the number of rings you have. We understand this is the most accurate measure of age.

      @jerry I'm up to 12. But I've heard the neighborhood down the way a bit has a bunch more than my neighborhood did... so I'm hopeful there will be more soon! 🏴‍☠️

        @nuintari @jerry I did have to edit it though. It's Novell not Cisco.

          @nuintari There will come a time when almost no one left understand UUCP. and I don't know whether to be happy or sad about that.

          @jerry Sad, definitely sad.

          As a student of history who has had the privilege to meet and interview American and German WW2 Vets, I am filled with despair that nearly all of them are gone.

            @Sempf @jerry FTP predates UUCP and even IP by a wide mile.

            But Usenet exists because of UUCP. Same with Email.

                @jerry I wonder what type of rings you mean.

                Rings with 1, without 1, commutative?

                @greg @jerry Maybe the count of systems on which you can run code at ring 0 or below.

                  @jerry I thought the whole point of age verification was to stop the kids seeing the dreaded ring picture...

                    @jerry Forgive my ignorance, but is ring based aging a uniform thing or is there a standardized sampling location? For example, are my arms younger than my legs or are the rings just smaller on smaller appendages? Would I have the same number of rings in my fingers as I do on my thighs? If the number of rings varies, is there a standardized sampling location for the sake of uniformity?
