@astrid AAAA is four times A because IPv6 address is four times larger than IPv4

@a1ba @astrid Which annoyingly isn't how it works for batteries (or sheets of paper, like A3 is bigger than A4).

The chemistry gives 1.5 volts. To make 9 volts, you need six cells in series anyway, though you could use other methods to separate them.

@leeloo ah! OK, now I've got the opposite question. If they're doing it like this because of the chemistry, how do the ones that don't use 6 AAAA batteries do it? Are they just making 6 flat cells packed into a rectangle instead of cylinders?

B# and E#? Those keys are missing on my keyboard.

On the other hand, German speaking countries and areas that got their music theory from Germany tend to use H for the B key, so you can add musical note for H.

tl;dr The manufacturing process for making layers of things in rolls was already well-established for other things. Now even more so, so there's not any real incentive to retool for something else.

Interesting question, the people who have taken those apart would know.

I'm pretty sure lead acid car batteries put plastic walls between the cells (that chemistry gives 2 volts, so also needs six cells for the 12 volts).

though paper sizes have some logic in them.

If you fold A3 you get A4.

@astrid AAAA is also a battery, just not one commonly used. you are most likely to have handled them in packs of 6 inside 9-volt batteries (although not all 9-volt batteries are constructed like this)

@leeloo @astrid On a piano, B# is the same as C, and E# is the same as F. But within music theory they are considered distinct notes, and can have different pitches in some contexts.

@astrid is there any easy way to tell which ones are or aren't without ripping apart a 9V battery?

I actually didn't even know AAAA batteries existed before I learned about this. I found an old 9V and tore into it as soon as I read about it and that one was indeed made from 6 AAAA batteries.
